This does not surprise me in the least and why should it? Im black and I have a vagina. I have never been a slave of any kind in my entire existence. Yes I read fashion magazines and yes one of them is vogue.
I'm not saying that it's OK to create a fashion trend that refers to the dehumanization of women of African decent . I'm actually asking when hasn't it been not culturally OK. Ahhhhh. Lets see..... oh' right . never!
Personally' I like the earrings as earrings alone but I suppose there are a great deal of black women out there who are on some rational scale pissed the fuck off.As well they should be.Am I ? Nope. Why? Well let's see. firstly 'Do I get mad when I see white women with dread locks lathered in mandingo complex walking with their half&half child(s) and black lover? Nope. Why? I don't know the guy. Ah duh!
Do I get pissed when I see a white woman in black face in french Vogue or any other fashion magazine. Nah'. Why ? Because theses magazines are not for "me" or anyone that looks like me and because I'm not an idiot I got it from jump street.
Oh' yes' the earrings. How could I forget. ( as we all will) Here's the deal. Shit like this has always happened and will continue to happen. It's a big fucking inconvenience to be black and a woman at the same time . It can be socially abusive and hurtful as well as emotionally trying but it is what it is and at the end of the day know one( being white people)& including black men( on some occasions) give a shit what offends black women.
In this world white is right and that includes dressing up emaciated white models like perfected female versions of Europe's Colonial (cough) past.
I suspect because of the stealth sense of self I withhold I can say that of all my short comings Being brown is not one of them. I say go watch 'Venus Noire' and come bitch to me about the hurtful scars the European fashion world has left you.
So that being said I intend to purchase a pair of theses so called slave earrings and I suspect I'll be wearing them When Some cute white guy is caressing my sweet brown ass as we listen to joy division .
